Map of Ryde Cemetery

New maps of the Cemetery are being produced by RSHG Mapping Work Group using the old hand drawn maps from Bereavement Services, details from the Burial Registers, and diligent surveying in the Cemetery.   The new maps should make it easier for people to find a particular grave. Thirty RSHG Maps have been produced so far (May 2008).    This is a work in progress so it is worth checking back from time to time for updates.

Mapping the whole twelve acre cemetery by the Group is a long term project.   It is estimated that 61 maps will be needed in total to complete the mapping project.

Each record (on the graves page) gives a map and grid reference: e.g. Ellen DUSELDORFT can be found on map RSHG 001, and in grid box A1.  The Transcribing Group only records the names that can be seen on the memorials but you may still be able to find the location of burials where there are no markers or where the graves are too overgrown to read.  Try looking up the names in the Alphabetical Map Indexes as these Indexes include ALL the names for all the graves shown on the maps, even if we have been unable to transcribe them.

Links to the maps and the Alpha-Index are provided below. If you spot any inaccuracies please let us know.

Please be aware that even with the maps some graves are difficult or near impossible to locate on the ground.   Please refer to the legend, which explains the conventions used in drawing the maps, for example, whether the grave plot has a marker, has been recorded, or is overgrown.

If you have any problems using the maps, please contact David Earle, the leader of the mapping work group, and he will be pleased to assist you.

The Map files are *.pdf files.  If you don’t have an Adobe *.pdf viewer you can download one as a free download from http://www.adobe.co.uk/main.html .   The files are large (to enable them to be easily read) so please allow them time to load.
